When anxious, uneasy and bad thoughts come, I go to the sea, and the sea drowns them out with its great wide sounds, cleanses me with its noise, and imposes a rhythm upon everything in me that is bewildered and confused.

Blue jeans, white shirt,
Walked into the room you know you made my eyes burn.
It was like James Dean, for sure.

I will love you till the end of time.
I would wait a million years…
Promise you’ll remember that you’re mine.

I can only note that the past is beautiful because one never realizes an emotion at the time. It expands later, and thus we don’t have complete emotions about the present, only about the past.

Tuscany, Italy. 2013.

I was organizing my film archives recently and stumbled upon a few rolls that I shot in Italy with the Contax Aria. I had never paid any attention to them because I was shooting my Contax 645 more at the time. I still prefer the look of medium format over 35mm (especially in color), but I liked how these came out and decided to share them. I also had a funny realization, I seem to be smitten with scooters and chairs.

Italy will always have a very special place in my heart. It’s the first place that my husband and I traveled to together, the place where our penchant for travel photography was born, the place that charmed me and made me fall in love with Europe. It was the place where we were married and where so many wonderful memories were made. Apricot croissants and lattes. The best boat ride ever. Pizza with fresh basil and soft buffalo mozzarella. Picking figs. Long naps. A glass of wine by the pool on a summer night. My favorite pasta. Being with my best friend. Listening to crickets sing.

Letting the sun turn us as brown as the Tuscan landscape, and feeling that everything in the world was right.
